HR 5955 is an orange giant star in the constellation Apus. At 290 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.70. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 58.9 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 15,700 and 29,800 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 1.2 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 4.42 from a distance of 161 light years.
