At 290 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.68. 84 Ursae Majoris is the primary component of a multiple-star system and an intrinsic variable star that varies between magntitudes 5.66 and 5.69 over a period of 33.36 hours. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 7 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 24,000 and 29,200 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
