Theta Pyxidis (HIP 45902)

Theta Pyxidis is a red giant star in the constellation Pyxis. At 499 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.71. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 22.8 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 21,200 and 24,700 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 5.8 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 3.12 from a distance of 241 light years.
