Omicron Puppis is a blue subgiant star in the constellation Puppis. At 1,401 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.40. Omicron Puppis is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 26.9 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 24,800 and 32,000 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 8.7 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 3.99 from a distance of 1,162 light years.
