1 Puppis is a red giant star in the constellation Puppis. At 770 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.63. 1 Puppis is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 49.1 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 22,300 and 29,600 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 3.1 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 4.01 from a distance of 579 light years.
