v1 Puppis (HIP 35363)

v1 Puppis is a blue main-sequence star in the constellation Puppis. At 804 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.65. v1 Puppis is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 23.6 km/s relative to the Sun and is part of the Collinder 135 moving group. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 24,300 and 26,700 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 8.1 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 3.59 from a distance of 494 light years.
