Iota Reticuli (HIP 18772)

Iota Reticuli is an orange giant star in the constellation Reticulum. At 319 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.97. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 80.9 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 12,300 and 25,100 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 883,000 years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 4.08 from a distance of 212 light years.
