12 Persei (HIP 12623)

12 Persei is a white main-sequence star in the constellation Perseus. At 79 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.91. 12 Persei is a multiple-star system. The star's age is estimated to be 2.6 billion years but is certainly no less than 2.5 billion years and no greater than 2.8 billion years. The iron abundance of 12 Persei is +0.23 (169.8% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 31.2 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 19,400 and 27,000 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It will come closest to the Sun 560,000 years from now when it will brighten to magnitude 4.06 from a distance of 53 light years.
